This is the second day of the BPSA Pre Registration Graduate Conference series sponsored by the Pharmacists' Defence Association.
This part of the programme is timed to support you in a number of ways by;
- providing hints and tips on how to pass the registration exam
- participation in a mock exam
- helping you develop strategies for the 'big event'
- participation in a "Fitness to Practise" exercise
Having had considerable experience in understanding what pre-reg graduates go through in their training year and the expectations that are thrust upon them by the public, their professional body and their employers, BPSA and the PDA can identify with the pressures you are under; You can do with all the support available. This conference is not only a fantastic opportunity to continue to gather evidence relating to performance standards, but it will also be accredited as part of BPSA's professional development scheme
And in case you needed reminding, the conference is a great way of keeping in touch with friends from university days
You are now on the finishing straight before you qualify as a pharmacist and the BPSA, and the PDA are there to support you all the way

CONFERENCE DETAILS
There are two main themes for the conference.
REGISTRATION EXAM
--------------------------------
At this stage in the training year, many delegates will be starting to plan for the registration exam. Half of the day will be devoted to preparing for the exam in order to maximise your chances of success. This will include a mock exam to give delegates a feel for standard they will need to achieve on the “big day”. The examination session will be led by Alan Nathan FRPharmS a former member of the Pre Reg Examination Board. Alan’s exam session is always well received by trainees and a very popular part of the day. The session is supported by members of the BPSA executive who also provide practical hints and tips to delegates by drawing on their recent experience of the exam.
FITNESS TO PRACTISE
--------------------------------
Most preregistration graduates will be feeling the full weight of their professional responsibilities this summer, when they register as a pharmacist. The early stages of a professional career can be challenging, and a time when inexperience or getting used to a new role can lead to mistakes being made. Statistics indicate that pharmacy is one of the most highly regulated healthcare professions in the UK and almost every pharmacist at some stage in their career will make a dispensing error. The Society views any error as an indication that a pharmacist’s fitness to practise may be impaired and will instigate an investigation into any errors it becomes aware of. The PDA provides risk management information to its members and this session will highlight some of the common pitfalls that newly qualified pharmacists encounter and how to avoid coming to the attention of the regulator. Part of the programme will be an interactive mock Fitness to Practise Committee hearing, with delegates having the opportunity to act as either the prosecution, the defence or sit in judgement on a pharmacist whose fitness to practise is under scrutiny.
Question & Answer Session
As well as the two themes of the day, delegates will have an opportunity to ask questions of an experienced panel of pharmacists, who understand pre registration issues.
Domestic Arrangements
Registration commences at 9:30am with the conference starting at 10:15am. Lunch and refreshments will be provided during the day. Exact timing of the session will be provided closer to the day. Delegates will need to commit to attend the full day as late entry will not be permitted into the conference, due to the nature of the sessions being provided.
